XENICAL TABLETS FOR WEIGHT LOSS...

Diet, Weight loss, Diet tips, Weight Watchers, Slimming. Diets, Health, Fitness, Diet Classes, Keeping Fit, Weight loss tips, Slimming Tips.

After being unsuccessful at losing weight I decided to go and see my GP for some advice. She then referred me to a nurse who put me onto the British Heart Foundation Diet.

This is basically, three meals a day (portion control being very important) with a treat of up to 100 calories a day.

The weight loss has been slow but I never gained any and over 12 weeks and lost 10lbs.

The nurse started to get to know me well over the 12 weeks and knew that I was getting a bit anxious about my weight loss with foot surgery imminent which would totally incapacitate me for a while.

She suggested that I had a chat with my GP about going onto the weight loss pill Xenical.

After a chat with my GP she has approved a month's trial of the drug in the hope it might help to boost the weight loss for me.

She advised that I waited until I was on one crutch rather than two before I start the trial, as the side effect can be frequent trips to the loo.

Tomorrow, I have the stitches out and should hopefully be down to one crutch so I plan to start the drug on Saturday.

I checked my weight this morning and I have gained 1lb over the last two weeks while I have been totally incapacitated and only allowed up to go to the loo. So I guess really that's not to bad.

I will be writing my diary on the results of Xenical in the hope that they will work for me as I have only heard good results on this particular weight loss pill.

HEALTH AND WEIGHT LOSS WORKOUT...

Diet, Weight loss, Diet tips, Weight Watchers, Slimming. Diets, Health, Fitness, Diet Classes, Keeping Fit, Weight loss tips, Slimming Tips.

They say that it's easy to make an excuse not to workout, with common excuses like, 'I'm too busy', or 'I feel self-conscious', and of course nowadays, 'I can't afford the gym membership'.

Well, with access to fitness DVD's and Wifely there is no excuse to the comment of 'I feel self conscious' or 'I can't afford to go to the gym' as you can do it in the privacy of your own home for free.

Being motivated is hard for anyone who doesn't exercise but if you wrote down a list of reasons why you should work out with 'for my health's sake', at the top of your list, I am sure you could think of more to add to it, like, 'looking better in your clothes' or 'feeling more energetic' or even 'for my kids'. These should help to remind you why you are doing it.

For me, personally, I need to do some form of exercise for my health sake.

My excuse has been the usual as well as my health related problem which is chronic back pain but now an added problem of osteoarthritis in my big toe!!!!

I cannot walk far without pain, could not possibly follow a DVD or WIFit exercise regime without hurting myself, so I have not bothered with either. Now, with my latest problem which could have developed through being overweight, I realise I have to do something about it.

So, I've bought a foot cycle which I am planning on using after my foot surgery this week. Until I am able to try it I will use it using my arms instead of my feet. So, watch this space for my results using this type of exercise machine

WEIGHT WATCHERS DIET...

New Yorker Jean Nidetch, who described herself as an 'overweight house wife, obsessed with eating cookies', formed weight watchers in 1961.

It was born when she decided that the only way to stick to a sensible diet was by organising regular support meetings.

Weight Watchers is a slimming program that spans the world and counts its membership over the last 40 years in the millions with Fergie advocating it.

They say, 'As the world leaders in healthy weight loss, we pride ourselves in taking the latest, proven and global nutrition research and turning it into a highly effective and flexible weight loss plan that really works.

As the weight loss experts, we know how to help people learn how to lose weight and keep it off. For nearly 50 years, a combination of healthy eating, activity, small changes in behaviour and group support has been at the heart of the Weight Watchers philosophy. Now, with the new ProPoints plan, it’s easier than ever to make the smart food and activity choices that put you on the road to weight loss success for the long term.

THE RAW FOOD DIET...

The theory behind the raw diet is that when food is cooked above 46c, it loses its essential enzymes that aid digestion and the absorption of key nutrients. Anything below 46c is considered raw, water simmers from 60c.

Followers make sure 80% of their food is uncooked and use methods such as soaking buts, and dried fruits to 'wake up' their enzymes, plus juicing fruit and vegetables.

THE 30% FAT DIET...

Some evidence suggests the best route to keeping weight off long term is to make a moderate fat restriction, rather than completely cut it out, where fat accounts for no more than 30% of your total calories.

Followers of this diet either count up their daily fat gram total or follow an eating plan where all foods are very low in fat.

Healthy unsaturated fats are essential for overall health and should not be restricted to a percentage less than 20%.

A book around this type of diet is The Fat Smash Diet, The Last Diet You'll Ever Need by Ian K. Smith

The lemon juice is said to loosen waste while cayenne pepper speeds metabolism and increases blood flow to the area to be 'detoxified'. The maple syrup provides much needed energy to follow this diet.

WEIGHT LOSS WITHOUT ACTUALLY GOING ON A DIET...

Sorry I have been unable to write my blogs over the last couple of months but my Dad collapsed in January due to a heart condition and caring for step mum who has dementia.

It's taken the last two months to get mum sorted in a care home and rearrange dads flat to now suite his needs.

He is to have a pacemaker put in some time this month, Mum is settled although had a bad fall last week and banged her head and they have found a small tumour in her brain but they are not going to operate as they think it should be left alone.

My life, dads life and mums has changed considerably over the last couple of months and mine and dads will not be back to our usual routine until he has the operation and is recovered from it.

The problem is that he is 100 miles away from me so therefore I am back and forth trying to sort things out. We have changed his second bedroom which he was using as a study back to a second bedroom for me and my husband so that should make things a little easier. Especially as I have major problems with my back and need to rest every afternoon which I was not doing while commuting back and forth.

I obviously stopped going to Weight Watchers and gained a few pounds from when I first started but have rejoined again now.

I have lost a pound and a half for the last two weeks and can honestly say that I have not felt as if I have been on a diet at all. During the last couple of months of caring for Dad I have had loads of magazines to read and have been slowly making a note of diet tips I have read here there and everywhere and some of them are definitely working.

So, instead of you following me losing weight on a weight watchers diet I plan to post as often as I can with tips to help you lose weight without actually dieting. I am trying to get one for every day of the year so keep reading my blog for updates.

Thank you for following me during my large gap in writing on the blog.

WEIGHT WATCHER WEEK TWO...

It was week two weigh in today and I am delighted to say I have lost another 2.5lbs so I am chuffed to bits. 5lbs off towards my stone for my holidays.

Love the new Weight Watchers Pro Points system, it means you can have a little bit of what you fancy. I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it and wants to lose some weight.

ANOTHER REASON WHY I CANNOT LOSE WEIGHT...

FIRST WEEK ON WEIGHT WATCHERS A SUCCESS...

I had my first weigh in today after a week on weight watchers and was very pleased to be told that I had lost 2.5lbs.

I know some people would like to lose more and some do lose a lot more but I'm better ticking along with 2 – 3lbs a week then it will stay off. I have also not been in the least bit hungry.

Because I wasn't 100% sure that I had worked the points out correctly with the wheel in the starter pack I bought the weight watchers calculator today.

Its very easy to use and wish I had bought it last week after finding out that a number of the foods I had eaten were the wrong points. All should have been higher and none lower (just typical) but I think as I had not used much of my extra points up it must have balanced out one way or another.

All in all I am happy with my loss and would absolutely love it to continue this way.

WEIGHT WATCHERS NEW PRO POINTS DIET DAY FIVE...

Well, so far so good...

I've not checked if I have lost any weight yet as I could be put off the diet if I had lost nothing, or become a bit complacent if I found I had lost a bit so, I think I will wait until the weigh in on Wednesday.

I'm still struggling with the points wheel and I had a chat with my consultant about it and she said the only way that we will find out whether I have done it right is by my weight loss at the end of the week.

I will be gutted if I have it wrong, I've kept all the packages to take with me on Wednesday just in case. But, fingers crossed, so far so good.

WEIGHT WATCHERS NEW PROPOINTS PLAN...

Well today I joined our local Weight Watchers group in order to try out the new ProPoints plan. The difference to their other plan is it takes into account how protein, carbohydrates, fat and fibre are processed by your body instead of the dreaded calorie counting.

Basically every food and drink is assigned a ProPoints value. It takes into account the way your body processes the nutrients in food, to give you a more accurate measurement of the calories available to your body, after you have eaten it.

There's more room for a real life with the ProPoints as fresh and frozen fruit are free and most vegetables. All the points from the old system are completely different from the new system so even if you bought a Weight Watchers meal you would have to use your calculator to work out the new points until all the products have been redesigned with the new points on them.

It's going to take a few days to get my head round it so I will come back and blog when I understand it completely but there is a lot more freedom with the diet this time, which is a real plus

THE GI DIET - THE QUESTION IS DOES IT WORK?...

GI stand for Glycemic Index and is a measure of the impact of food in your blood sugar. The diet focuses on the way in which different foods affect low sugar levels.

Basically, when blood sugar increases, insulin levels in the body are elevated, and as a result, the body doesn't burn fat. This is what the GI diet plan attempts to minimise.

On the GI diet there are no foods that you can't eat but the secret ie eating more low GI foods rather than high GI foods.

Some examples of low GI foods are Al Bran and Porridge, Soya and Linseed bread, cabbage and carrots and some examples of high GI foods opposite the above are Cornflakes, Bagels, and Parsnips.

Really the only way you can get your head around this diet is either to download some of the details on the website www.the-gi-diet.org or buy one of the diet books. One highly rated book is by Antony Worral Thompson simply titled 'GI Diet'.

I'd be really interested to hear anyone who has been on this diet as looking at it, once you understood the plan and fill your cupboards with low GI foods then you should by all rights find weight dropping off.

DIETS – LOVE THEM OR HATE THEM...

You only have to open the papers and magazines today and you will find diet after diet, after diet being advertised.

The question is which one do you choose? The most popular, the online one, the diet club? And why are they all so different when you are also told that its only a case of cutting down your calories to lose weight?

It's quite confusing really so I am going to review some of the interesting ones for you starting with 'The Dukan Diet'.

Apparently this is the UK's best selling diet book, based on a protein focused weight loss regime. It has four million followers in 32 countries. The French GP Pierre Dukan's diet is used by the rich and famous and has certainly made him rich after it has already sold a quarter of a million copies.

It has four stages to the diet which starts with two to four days of only eating protein (eggs, meat, fish and certain dairy). Vegetables are the enemy and only introduced on alternate days. You can eat fruit, bread, cereals and starchy foods and 'two' 'whatever you want' meals a week.

But, unlike Atkins the Dukan diet allows lean meats and low far dairy. Bread is made by yourself with the recipe for it in his book which can be made in your microwave in five minutes.

The Dukan Diet Hoddar & Stoughton – I must admit this really does sound interesting but as I am joining Weight Watchers on Wednesday I had better give that a go first.
